While I am pretty sure that Gitter is not German for delicious, it probably should be.

ingredients

  • 5 c. Flour, unsifted
  • 3 tsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 1/2 c. Sugar
  • 1 c. Butter
  • 3 Eggs
  • 3 TBS. Milk
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla or Lemon Rind
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 jar Apricot Preserves

    Preheat oven to 350°F.

    Cream together butter and sugar. Alternately add in eggs, dry ingredients and milk. Halve dough. Line an 8x8 in. casserole dish with half of the dough, rolled out. Fill with preserves. Roll remaining dough into logs, and decoratively top the Gitterkuchen with the dough strips.

    Bake for 45 min.
