Tasty Homemade Bread

Makes 20 large rolls or 1 loaf of bread.

This is one of the best bread and roll recipe I have ever found. It’s also called Amish Bread. It is sweet enough to make cinnamon rolls but, is light enough for sandwich bread.

ingredients

  • 2 Cups Water
  • 2/3 Cups Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Yeast
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 6 Cups Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Oil

directions

In small bowl add 1 cup of warm water, yeast and 1/3 cup of sugar. Let yeast activate and rise (about 15 minutes). In separate bowl add 1 cup warm water, salt, oil, 1/3 cup of sugar and 1 cup flour. Mix well. Add the yeast mixture to flour mixture. Blend well. Add 1 cup of flour at a time. Mix well after each addition of flour, until dough starts pulling away from bowl. Pour dough out on a flour work surface. Kneed 10 minutes. Put dough into a buttered dish, Put warm wet towel over bowl and allow dough to rise for 1 hour. After dough has risen, punch down and let dough rest another 10 minutes, Meanwhile, prepare pan(s) by spraying Pam or similar spray, Divide dough in half and start making rolls. Place rolls on prepared pan(s). If making bread, roll dough out to 10x12 size. Start rolling dough up from the smaller end jelly roll style. Fold ends and pinch to bottom of dough and place into bread pan. Cover dough with warm wet towel and wlet rise 45-60 minutes. Place in preheated oven at 350° degress for 25-30 minutes (for loaf bread cook an additional 10-15 minutes) until bread/rolls are brown om top and bottom.
