Traditional Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes 3 dozen cookies
StephanneStephanne

We always have to make two batches. While my sister and I prefer the traditional version, the Date/Nut cookies that my dad enjoys are also very good and can be easily made from the same recipe.

ingredients

Traditional Recipe (For the Girls)
  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 7/8 cup brown sugar
  • 5/8 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup softened butter or margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 12oz. package of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Date/Nut Cookies (For Dad)
  • Package of chopped dates
  • Package of chopped walnuts/pecans

directions

  • 2

Sift flour, salt, and baking soda into bowl and set aside.

  • 3

Combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter/margarine and vanilla and beat until creamy. Add eggs and beat.

  • 4

Add dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips.

  • 5

Drop dough onto ungrased cookie sheet in teaspoonfuls.

  • 6

Bake at least 9 minutes and until the edges are golden.

Date/Nut

Instead of adding the chocolate chips, add the chopped dates and nuts and precede with directions.
