Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce

ingredients

  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 7 cups 2-inch cubes of day-old french bread
  • 1 1/3 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 tablespoons brandy
  • 1 cup raisins (I don’t usually use)
Bourbon Sauce
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1/4 cup bourbon or brandy

    Combine all ingredients and let stand in refrigerator overnight.

    Butter and flour a pan that is big enough to allow pudding to rise quite a bit. Pour ingredients into pan. Set pan in larger pan; add hot water well up sides. Bake at 350 degrees F for 50 - 60 minutes. Serve warm with Bourbon Sauce

Bourbon Sauce

In top of double boiler over boiling water, mix together butter and brown sugar. Stir in half and half. Heat until hot and thick. Add liquor. Serve over bread pudding.
