Shrimp Creole

ingredients

  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • Salt and cayenne
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 (14oz) cans of stewed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Dash of worcestershire sauce
  • Dash of hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and devained
  • essence, recipe follows
  • 2 cups cooked white rice

    In a large saucepan, over medium heat, melt butter. Add the onion and peppers and season with salt and cayenne. Saute until wilted, 6 to 8 minutes. Stir in bay leaf, tomatoes, and garlic powder. Bring mix to boil and reduce to a simmer for 15 min. If mix becomes too dry add some water. Seson mix with worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.

    Whisk flour and water together. Add flour mix to tomato mix and continue to cook for 4 to 6 minutes. Season shrimp with Essence. Add shrimp to mixture and continue cooking until shrimp turns pink and curls up.
