Smoked Cheese Squares
ingredients
- 2 med onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter or margarine
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 c pitted whole dates, snipped
- 1/4 c pine nuts or slivered almonds
- 1/2 c shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 c shredded smoked Gouda cheese
- 1/2 c shredded smoked cheddar cheese
- 1 16oz Italian bread shell Boboli

Preheat oven to 450°F.

In a large skillet cook onion in butter and oil over medium heat for 10 mins, stirring occasionally.

Stir in sugar, vinegar, and dates. Cook and stir 5 mins more or until onions are golden brown.

Remove from heat.

Stir in nuts.

In a bowl combine cheeses.

Sprinkle evenly over bread shell.

Top with onion mixture.

Place bread shell on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 8 mins or until cheese melts.

Let stand 5 mins before cutting into 2-inch squares.
