  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour (OR use 2 cups sifted Swans Down Cake Flour)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
