Wellesley Fudge Cake (Circa 1898)

- 4 squares Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour (OR use 2 cups sifted Swans Down Cake Flour)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
