World's Best Cookie
Chocolate chip drop cookies.
ingredients
- 1 cup shortening or unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 1/3 cups (14oz, 400g) chocolate chips
- 2 cups quick-cooking (1 minute) oatmeal
- 1 cup (4oz, 115g) chopped walnuts

Cream shortening with sugars until light and fluffy. Add eggs, mixing thoroughly. Stir in vanilla.

Combine flour with soda and salt. Add to shortening mixture. Blend well but do not beat.

Combine chocolate chips, oatmeal and walnuts (or pecans if preferred). Stir thoroughly into shortening-flour mixture. Dough will appear somewhat dry.

Drop by large rounded teaspoonsful onto greased cookie sheets (or use cookie scoop with diameter of about 1 1/4 inches).

Bake at 375F, checking progress after 12 minutes. Do not overbake, but cookies should be a toasty, golden-brown color. Remove promptly to a cooling rack.
