Jeff's Crock Pot Carnitas
Has a good amount of prep time to it, but cooking is made really simple.
ingredients
- 4 lbs pork shoulder butt
- 1 large orange
- 1 lemon
- 1 lime
- 7 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1 can of Root Beer or Coke
- cilantro
- chili powder/peppers/hot sauce (Heat)
directions
Cut the pork shoulder butt into cubes. In a skillet, heat up olive oil. Add the pork cubes to the hot skillet as you are looking to brown or sear the cubes. Place the browned/seared cubes into the crock pot. Cut the orange in half, and squeeze the juice from half of it into the crock pot. Take the lemon and lime and cut each in half squeezing the juices from both into the crock pot. Add the remaining ingredients. Add cilantro and heat to desired amount of taste. Take the remaining orange half and cut into slices, placing the slices on top of the pork while it cooks. Cook on high for 5 hours. Carnitas can be served in cubes or shredded up in tacos, burritos, etc. If shredded, use two forks to shred the meat and remove all large pieces of fat.
