Fruit Salad
Fruit Salad as prepared by Grandma Fischer while Dad was growing up.
ingredients
- 1 can fruit cocktail
- 1 can pineapple wedges
- 2 apples
- 2 bananas
- 1 pt. heavy cream
- 1/3 bag miniature marshmallows
- Whatever fresh fruit is in season i.e. grapes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pears, etc.
directions
- 1
Drain canned fruit and pat dry. Peel the fresh fruit and slice into small pieces (Grapes, Raspberries, Blueberries, etc. can go in whole).
- 2
While fruit is being prepared whip cream (add a little vanilla and sugar to taste; optional: add one to two teaspoons light Karo syrup to stabilize the cream). When cream forms a stiff peak it is ready.
- 3
Add fruit and marshmallows to the whipped cream and fold until all pieces are covered.
notes
Option: Add walnut pieces. Note: Avoid using fruit with high water content (i.e. watermelon) which will break down the whipped cream, or citrus fruits.
