Tom's Old Fangled Bread Pudding

ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
- 6 slices white bread
- softened butter
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 4 eggs, slightly beaten
- 3 cups whole or 2-percent milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Pinch salt

Spread brown sugar in top of double boiler. Butter slices of bread and then cut into cubes. Place bread on top of sugar and sprinkle with raisins. Mix together eggs, milk, vanilla and salt and pour over bread and raisins. Do not stir. Cover and cook over simmering water about 1 1/4 hours.

When ready to serve, rim sides of pudding with knife and place serving dish with at least 1 inch sides over top of double boiler and invert. Pudding will drop onto serving dish and will have a caramel syrup on top. Cool slightly and serve.
