Mountain pasta sauce
ingredients
- 1lb lean ground beef
- 1/2 lb Italian sausage (turkey or pork Italian sausage works)
- Lawry’s spaghetti seasoning (comes in a packet)
- 1 small onion - chopped
- 1/2 green pepper – chopped
- 1 clove garlic – pressed in a garlic press, or chopped works o.k. too
- 1 28 oz can chopped plum tomatoes
- 1 14 oz can tomato sauce
- 1 6 oz can sliced black olives – drained
- 1 6oz can tomato paste
- Red wine – I cup
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 bay leaf (optional)
- Water – fill the tomato sauce can with water and add
directions
Brown ground beef, sausage, with onions and green pepper in large frying pan – drain fat once meat is browned well. Put all other ingredients in large pot (i.e. soup size). Add meat mixture to other ingredients, mix well and bring to a slow boil, turn down to simmer. Simmer on low heat uncovered, or partially covered (crack the lid) for about 45 minutes to one hour. Add additional liquid (water) if needed. This can be reheated, or made in advance and is always better the next day – warm it up slowly so you don’t scald the bottom. Serve with linguine, spaghetti or your other favorite pasta!
