Cookie Dough

• 1 3/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, sifted
• 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened, or 1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
• 3/4 cups sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
• 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
• 1/4 cup coarsely ground walnuts
• 1 cup raisins, coarsely chopped
• 1/2 cup milk

Frosting

• 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
• 2 1/2 tablespoons heavy cream
• 1 teaspoon unsalted butter or margarine, softened
• 1 teaspoon rum extract
• Colored sprinkles
