Devils Food Cake
ingredients
- 2 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 4 ounces semisweet chocolate chopped
- 1 stick unsalted butter cut into pieces
- 2 large eggs beaten lightly
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk

Line 2 buttered round cake pans with wax paper, butter the paper and dust with flour, shake off excess.

In heavy saucepan combine sugar, the chocolate,and 1/2 cup water, bring just to a boil stirring constantly remove from heat.

Add butter stir until butter is melted

and let cool, add eggs, vanilla, salt combine the mixture well. In a bowl sift flour and baking soda add to chocolate mixture alternately with buttermilk and stir until smooth.

Divide the batter between the cake pans, bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes until cake tester comes out clean, let layers cool, invert on racks peel off paper and frost.

Use frosting from carrot cake recipe or your favorite chocolate one.
