Pico de Gallo (the beak of the rooster ) is a Mexican staple. Just add mashed avocado to it and it becomes guacamole.

ingredients

  • Chopped tomato
  • Chopped onion
  • chopped chiles (jalapeno or Serrano )
  • Other additions can be:
  • Chopped cilantro
  • chopped cucumber,
  • lemon or lime juice
  • chopped radish

directions

    Mix tomato,onion and chiles together.

  • 2

    Add any additional ingredients as desired.

  • 3

    Mix and refrigerate until serving with tortilla chips.

  • 4

    To make guacamole, add mashed avocado to the pico de Gallo.

There are as many recipes for pico de Gallo as there are cooks in Mexico. The basic recipe is tomatoes, onions, and chiles.
