PatriciaPatricia Van Vels

An “old-fashioned” dessert but still good and healthy.

ingredients

  • 2 eggs, beaten with whisk
  • 2 cup milk
  • 5 Tbsp sugar
  • salt, dash
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • grated nutmeg

directions

  • 1

    Add milk to beaten eggs.

  • 2

    Add remaining ingredients except nutmeg.

  • 3

Pour into 5 custard cups which have been placed in a 9 by 9 in. pan.

  • 4

Pour boiling water around the custard cups until water is one half the way up the sides of the cups.

  • 5

Dust top of cups with grated nutmeg.

  • 6

Bake in 350 degree oven for one hour.

notes

Great-Grandma Borgman made these custards almost every week for Great-Grandpa. The custards need the boiling water bath so that they do not bake too quickly and become hard and tough. A light dessert or snack.
