Apple Dumplings
Great alternative to apple pie!
ingredients
- 4 Ritz premade pie crusts (or make enough pie crust equivalent)
- 4 3-inch MacIntosh apples
- 1/2 c light brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 4 pats butter
directions
Prepare apple dumpling
- 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Remove pie crusts from freezer and separate to thaw.
- 2
Peel and core apples. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in small bowl.
- 3
Remove one pie crust gently from aluminum pie pan. Place apple in center and fill empty core with cinnamon mixture. Place pat of butter on top.
- 4
Draw up pastry to enclose each apple, sealing seams with a little water, if necessary. Place in cake pan, seam side up.
Brush with milk and bake
- 1
Make hole in the top of each dumpling, then brush lightly all over with milk. Wipe up excess milk with paper towel.
- 2
Bake dumplings for 35-40 minutes, until pastry is golden brown and apples are tender. Serve hot with Cool Whip and/or vanilla ice cream.
notes
I began to make this dessert for holidays. It is really easy and delicious, although completely filling and rich!
