ingredients

  • 1/2 cup 1% milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon strong coffee, premade
  • 1 cup semi-sweet mini chocolate chips
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon orange liqueur, or 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup fat-free whipped topping
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest

    In a small saucepan over medium heat, stir together the milk, sugar and coffee until the milk is hot, but not boiling and the sugar is dissolved. Place the chocolate chips in a blender. Pour the hot milk over the chips, and run the blender on high until combined, about 30 seconds. Add the egg whites and run the blender on high until light, about 1 minute. Transfer the mousse to 4 small serving cups, or if you want to be really impressive, put mousse into individual martini glasses. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until firm, about 3 hours.

    When ready to serve mousse, stir together the mascarpone cheese and orange liqueur in an electric mixer until smooth. Add the whipped topping, powdered sugar, and orange zest. Whip togehter the whipped topping mixture and mascarpone mixture until fully blended, about 1 minute.

    Remove plastic wrap from mousse, top with a large dollop of orange mascarpone whipped topping, and serve.
