Chicken Paprikash from Grandma Sophie
A great eastern European dish.. definite comfort food for a cold winters night. I would imagine any red wine would pair nicely with it. Lactaid substitutes might allow Craig to indulge as well!
ingredients
- 1 whole chicken
- 2 tbsp. Crisco
- 1 large onion
- 1 tsp. paprika
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 2 tbsp. cold water
- 1/4 cup sour cream
directions
Preparation
Cut chicken into pieces- wash quickly in cold water and drain- sprinkle with salt and pepper- melt lard in frying pan- brown chicken on all sides (not cooking entirely just yet)- add fat as required- remove chicken from pan- brown sliced onion and fat in pan- add paprika- add cup of water and chicken- cook for 1.5 to 2 hours until chicken is tender- mix flour and cold water into paste- add it to sour cream- mix well- add to chicken and cook 10 minutes longer
