Macaroni and Cheese
A delicious creamy addition to any meal!!
ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 1 quart milk
- 1 stick butter, divided
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 12 ounces grated Gruyere cheese
- 8 ounces grated cheddar cheese
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 3/4 lb fresh tomatoes (4 small)
- 1 1/2 cups fresh white breadcrumbs (5 slices, crusts removed)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Cook macaroni in a large pot of boiling salted water. Drain and set aside.

Meanwhile, in large heavy saucepan melt 6 tablespoons of the butter. Whisk in the flour and gradually add the milk. Continue cooking until mixture comes to a boil and begins to thicken. Remove from heat. Add cheeses, salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Grease a casserole dish and pour in macaroni mixture. Slice tomatoes about 1/2 inch thick and cover top of macaroni. In a small saute pan melt the remaining two tablespoons of butter and add breadcrumbs. Mix well.

Sprinkle over the tomatoes.

Bake casserole uncovered for 20-25 minutes.
