3 Hour Rolls
ingredients
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3/4 teaspoon sat
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 cakes yeast
- 1/4 cup lukewarm water
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1/4 cup melted shortening [or butter]
- 1 well beaten egg
- 2 3/4 cup flour
directions
Scald milk; add salt and sugar. cool to lukewarm; add yeast. Beat in 1 1/4 cups flour; set bowl in a pan of warm water 1/2 hour or until batter starts to bubble. Add remaining ingredients, using enough flour to make a fairly stiff dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic. Place in lightly greased bowl; return to warm water. Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Knead 2 minutes. Shape as desired. Place on greased baking pan. Set in warm place until double in bulk. Bake at 400°-425°F for 20-25 minutes.
