Chocolate Buttermilk Cake
A moist, chocolaty cake that’s always been a hit! The frosting tastes like fudge!
ingredients
- CAKE
- 2 C sugar
- 2 C flour
- 1 C butter
- 1/4 C cocoa
- 1 C water
- 1/2 C buttermilk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 t. baking soda
- 1 t. vanilla
- FROSTING
- 1/2 C butter
- 1/4 C cocoa
- 6 T milk
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1 pound confectioner’s sugar (sifted)
- 1 C walnuts

Sift sugar and flour in bowl. Combine butter, cocoa, and water in pan. Cook to boiling. Pour over sugar and flour mixture. Mix with buttermilk, eggs, soda, and vanilla. Mix well, and pour into greated jelly roll pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

*Prepare about ten minutes before cake is done, so you can put hot frosting onto hot cake.

Combine butter, cocoa, and milk in pan. Cook to boilding and remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients and mix. Add walnuts, and spread on hot cake.
