Baked Stuffed French Toast
Perfect make ahead dish for brunch!
ingredients
- 10 to 12 slices white bread, crusts trimmed
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 C. sugar
- 2 C. half and half
- dash of nutmeg
- Optional filling:
- fresh berries, 1 can of apple pie filling or orange marmalade

Mix eggs, sugar, half and half and nutmeg to make a custard.

Arrange half of bread in the bottom of a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole dish so that the bread covers the entire bottom of the dish. Pour half the custard over bread. Top with optional fillings. Place remaining half of bread over the top of the casserole covering it completely. Pour remaining custard over the top of the bread.

Refrigerate overnight.

When ready to bake, cover and bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Remove cover and bake for another 30 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Serve with warmed maple or fruit syrup of choice.
