ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 lb. beef stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 8 cups water
  • 2 beef-bouillon cubes
  • garlic powder
  • 1 14-oz. can stewed or diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup carrots - sliced
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup sliced celery
  • 1 cup barley
  • 2 tbsp. parsley
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. pepper

    1. In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add beef; cook, stirring often, until browned.

    2. Add 8 cups water, and garlic powder. Bring to boil. reduce heat, cover & simmer 1-1 1/2 hour or until meat is fork tender.

    3.Add remaining ingredients, cover & simmer 1 - 1 1/2 hours or until vegetables are tender.
