GRANDMA WARD'S OYSTER DRESSING
What I remember best from my Grandma’s cooking.
ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs French bread, torn into bite-sized pieces
- 1 stick butter
- 1/2 - 1 pint fresh oysters in liquid
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup turkey or chicken broth
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1-2 stalks celery, chopped
- 1 bunch fresh sage, finely chopped to taste
- 1 egg, slightly beaten

1. Preheat over to 325 degrees. Bake bread pieces on 2 large rimmed baking sheets for about 20 minutes, tossing occasionally until lightly toast. In meantime, butter 10x15 glass baking dish.

2. Melt butter in large skillet and saute onion and celery until tender. Add sage and saute until dark green.

3. Add mixture to bread. Add oysters and liquid, egg and enough broth to combine ingredients. Season to taste.

4. Transfer to prepared baking dish. Cover with foil and bake 1 hour or until thoroughly heated. Uncover and cook until golden brown.
