Oven French Toast
Good for Christmas Brunch
ingredients
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 2 Tablespoons dark corn syrup
- Dash of ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 6 medium eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla
- 1 loaf of French bread

Combine brown sugar, melted butter, corn syrup, nutmeg and cinnamon in a saucepan over low heat until well blended. Spread this mixture evenly in the bottom of a greased 9x13x2inch glass casserole baking dish.

Slice the bread 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick and place it over the syrup mixture. Some of the slices of bread can be cut to fill in ALL openings between the whole slices to make a solid covering of bread over the syrup mixture.

Beat eggs mild and vanilla together with a mixer and pour over the bread.

Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Bake uncovered in 325 degree oven for 30-35 minutes.

Cut into 8 servings, then use a spatula to remove each serving and serve it with the syrup side up.
