Grandma Peterson’s recipe for spice or applesauce cake frosting.
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. dark brown sugar
- 1/4 t. salt
- 6 T. whole milk
- 3 c. powdered sugar, sifted
Melt butter in sauce pan over low heat. Stir in brown sugar and salt. Bring to a boil and boil hard for two minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat and add milk. Let cool a few moments, add the sifted powdered sugar and beat until smooth. If frosting stiffens too quickly while spreading on cake, stir in a few drops of milk.
This is the best frosting on spice cake. And, Ron's favorite birthday cake!
