A yummy trifle made with brownies, whipped cream and cherries! SO Easy, too!

ingredients

  • Brownies: Either make homemade below or use boxed ones!
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsley chopped
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Cherries:
  • 24 ounce jar of sour cherries in syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Kirsch or Cherry Brandy
  • 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • Whipped Cream:
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Garnish:
  • Shaved or grated semi-sweet or milk chocolate

directions

  • 1

Brownies: either follow directions on box, or prepare as follows -

  • 2

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and place rack in center of oven. Butter and flour an 8 inch square baking pan.

  • 3

Melt chocolate and butter in a stainless steel bowl placed over a saucepan of simmering water. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar. Then stir in the vanilla extract and eggs. Finally, add flour and salt.

  • 4

Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven and let cool. When cooled, cut into 16 brownies.

  • 5

Cherries: To makes a sauce, drain the cherries, reserving the liquid. Place the liquid in a small saucepan, along with Kirsch (or brandy) and sugar, and simmer for about five minutes or until the sauce is syrupy. Remove from heat and add drained cherries. Let cool before making the trifles.

  • 6

Whipped Cream: In a medium bowl, whip (with electric mixer) the cream, sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

  • 7

To assemble trifles: Take the brownies and cut into bite-sized pieces. Place small handful of brownie pieces (about one brownie) in the bottom of each trifle glass. Next, place a spoonful of the cherries, and the syrup, on top of brownies. Place a large dollop of whipped cream on top of cherries. Repeat the three layers. Cover and refridgerate for 4 to 24 hours to allow flavors to mingle.

  • 8

Just before serving, sprinkle each trifle with shaved chocolate and top with a cherry.

notes

This is super easy, especially if you make brownies out of the box!
